Disney just recognizes Marvel as a successful company. I assume this would give Disney control of successful film IPs by Marvel such as Iron Man, X-Men, and (blecch) Fantastic Four. Oh, and did I mention ****ING SPIDERMAN? That too. They'd also probably receive royalties on these games.
Disney just wants money, they don't want to ruin your childhood memories. In fact, Disney is your childhood. |
Disney often likes to meddle in the operation of companies they buy... not always, but often. I don't know that they're going to meddle, but having worked for a fortune 100 company for 20 years, I've seen how tempting it is to try and "integrate" how businesses work. Sony's media group just about destroyed the PS3, price-wise, by insisting that the PS3 support Blu-Ray as the built-in drive.
So, is Disney going to interfere in the operation of Marvel? I don't know. Would Disney have been able to interfere in the operation of Marvel as an independent company? Not really... at least not at the level they could now.
So while I agree that saying this was a bad move for Marvel might sound alarmist, I think it's more of a warning... Disney now has the ability to inadvertantly, and with every good intention, destroy the empire that Marvel built. Will it? I have no clue.
