Disney often likes to meddle in the operation of companies they buy... not always, but often. I don't know that they're going to meddle, but having worked for a fortune 100 company for 20 years, I've seen how tempting it is to try and "integrate" how businesses work. Sony's media group just about destroyed the PS3, price-wise, by insisting that the PS3 support Blu-Ray as the built-in drive. So, is Disney going to interfere in the operation of Marvel? I don't know. Would Disney have been able to interfere in the operation of Marvel as an independent company? Not really... at least not at the level they could now. So while I agree that saying this was a bad move for Marvel might sound alarmist, I think it's more of a warning... Disney now has the ability to inadvertantly, and with every good intention, destroy the empire that Marvel built. Will it? I have no clue. |
That is the great fear...but the hope is that Marvel has basically been an ATM for the last 5-6 years, and Dsiney only needs to increase the profit margins by consolidating cost. In the live action realm...Disney needs more source material...sure POTC was a goldmine, but other attempts weren't as successful, whereas Marvel has a proven track record. Back in 2002-2003, when I was HEAVILY into Marvel, we would rave about how Marvel was the new Disney...little did we know...lol. Actually, during Pixar's squabbles with Disney, we had really hoped for Pixar and Marvel to merge...forming a new media powerhouse, and hte new IT studio...but that didn't happen.
