Forums - Sales - Microsoft is smart..

So you're telling me that MS is doing an advertisement blitzkrieg in stores for one week? I don't think that will have much effect in the overall scheme tbh.

Come on people, this is the beginning of September. The fact that Sony unleashed the $299.99 price point now is bizarre in it's self. Yeah, we're going to see a big ps3 boost for the next month or two but this ain't buying season. The long run advertisement is the real key for the slim.

The same can be said about the 360. But nothing big happened on the MS side. Yeah, the pro got a new name, but it's nowhere near a change as ps3's shift. And I think the sales will show that Sony's finally arrived to the ballpark. Of course I don't think it'll hit a game-changing home run, but it's not going to die and it's thunder is far from stolen.

I think that if Sony dropped the price of the ps3 much closer to the holidays, MS would've crushed them. But since that's not the case and the ps3 price point has a chance to sink in to future console consumers, I think we'll be seeing some healthy competition among the ps3 and Xbox come Christmas instead of the thunder stealing, Microsoft steam roller that this thread is predicting.

Anyway, that's just my $599 US dollars

by the way leo-j

u dont tell us if everyone was buying Elite 360 du to advertising ?

so ?

Time to Work !

to answer my favorite part of your post, :p it would have been foolish for MS to advertise last gen. The ps2 was just too strong to go up against- best to just bide their time and save their resources

I really don't think these things actually matter ... The DS has (generally speaking) had a very modest marketing campaign since it was released 5 years ago and is (almost) always the best selling system.

Ha ha. That's not true at all.

In the UK, Wii and DS adverts play on TV constantly. I have seen at least 10 times as many ads for both than I have seen for PS3 and 360 combined. That's not an exaggeration.

I guarantee you that Nintendo spend far more on advertising than either Sony or Microsoft. Far more.

too funny, microsoft is smart, microsoft is desperate to keep ahead, who cares about elite for 299.00. you could have a 360 for 200 bucks with a harddrive for 249.00. most people have been waiting for sony to drop the price, the ps3 is what is wanted. sony knows that why should they spend a bunch more money for no reason. its actually sony is smart. why do you think ps3 sales are through thr roof, and 360s are NOT

You made the most sensible comment on this thread. I'm sure MS paid stores to have nothing but their ads displayed everywhere

It's like the idea where the last thing you see/hear is what you remember...thus sometimes meaning what you consider the best...

Take a competition in dancing, or singing...if the last performance was above average...you may think it was the best out of the let's say...10 you saw before, because quite frankly you don't remember how good they were...and, "hey, the last one wasn't that bad" you may reason.

Microsoft "stole the show" so to speak by announcing their price cut last, and retailers have to now advertise their price point, and take Sony's down, or at least lessen it alot to make room for the "new". Customers that may have come into the store Friday and thought about coming back Sunday to buy a console now are teased with the Xbox price cut, essentially forgetting the PS3 one they saw, and going for the "new"...

Just my opionion as to why it was a smart move by MS..

Here PS3s are in one dark corner covered with spider webs and dust. Well, those are the phats. Slims are next to them covered by spiders, who are making webs undisturbed and well I haven't seen any slim ads. It almost feel like Wii & X360 are all there is.

Here in my local Ebgames in Australia there are huge posters of Ps3 slim price crash now $499!!!
and where are those ps3 slim ads that wer shown b4??? don't tell me it's all just for show....

That's more of copy cat than anything, tbh.

Being competitive is "copy cat?" Sounds like fan boy logic "tbh."

No, it's more like.

OH SHIT, Sony did it.. So we need to do it! Or they might beat us!!!

tbh.

Yeah cause Sony just invented advertising last night.

Damn. Looks like Sony's repeating its mistakes and getting pwnz0red by MS again. Making a cheaper, slimmer PS3 means fuck all if no one knows it exists.
