Why would it "destroy the 360" in the marketplace?
I'm a PS3fanboy and even I don't think that. However, I will point out that this is a big step forward for the PS3, b/c it allows sony to make the PS3 for a cheaper price, and to make a smaller version that will find room for itself easier, versus MS's mere price cut. So a big step forward for Sony, perhaps an inch forward for MS. So, since MS hasn't decreased the production cost but has made the same price cut, they will be more pressured financially so their marketing/developer relationships/ ability to win the competition for exclusives/ etc will suffer a little bit. I guarantee that the execs controlling various aspects of the X-box are a bit concerned and a little worried about all of this but thats business.
I also think that the Price cut will spur greater sales for Blu-ray but I'm also going to have to wait and see if that will really pan out. I think that it might help a little bit but we'll see within a month.
