What Kaz have said exactly was that it is going to be available during the first week of September. I believe there are no release date here and shops are free to sell it whenever they ready to.

Future Shop and Best Buy have it in stock in my neck of the woods. Not sure what their initial shipment was, but they have had them for 2 days now. Delivered Thursday.

I wonder if stores have them in stock because they're getting plenty shipped from Sony or if people are unaware they're available early?

Walmart doesn't generally sell things early without the go ahead so it's not illegally sold
