@ Cliff

Compare de chart between Nintendo and Sony between 2001~2005

I wonder how did they manage to get that amount of profit even with the gamecube poor sales and 100$ price cut.

Nintendo doesn't sell their hardware at a loss. Sony lost money on each PS2 sold into the consoles third year.

Yes, that and at that time the gba was out and quite popular, which must have added to profits. Also nintendo first party games always sell well for high profits.

The one we had to scratch our heads at was actually this “You really can't understate what Nintendo's accomplished with its hail Mary pass, coming off the GameCube's distant third showing, but you also can't ignore that it currently runs a distant second to Microsoft's Xbox 360 when it comes to annual profits.”

But the whole statement was wrong :)  The GameCube wasn't a distant third, either :)

Way to miss the whole point of the article and dwell on minor details. He was actually talking about how now that it seems like Microsoft (and Sony) might be trying to attract the casuals with Natal and Sony motion, they might be spending less time trying to attract core gamers which opens up more room on the Wii in that regards and could result in more games coming to the system like Fragile, Muramasa, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Madworld, and No More Heroes, that will appeal to gamers that are very putoff with what has so far been the main driving force of the Wii the Wii________ games.

As far as what he was talking about with the profits. If you assume that he was talking about the profits that hc games make on the system, then the Wii could probably be a distant second or even third. The Conduit has so far sold far fewer copies than Halo, Gears, and Killzone and No More Heroes definitely sold less than MGS4 and Uncharted.

But you are right that if you count all the games including the hefty amount of shovelware that crowds all the great games on the storeshelves like Carnival Games and Party Babyz, yeah Wii probably dominates profits with games that most fans of the hc consoles wouldn't want to play anyway.

I agree with the author and hope to see more or at least as many games like Fragile, No More Heroes, and Muramasa flow to the system in the future than games like Carnival Games 2 or even Wii Sports 3.

Thanks for the laugh. I am glad you signed up.

On topic: The article called the Wii a Hail Mary pass, this is hilarious.

Thanks for the compliment.  Please point out what you found so funny.

I think he was talking about sales there.

even if he's talking about sales, it was hardly "distant."  They were pretty close actually.

The whole second and third paragraph. It takes a lot of imagination to come up with spin like that.

Especially when you consider that third party games have nothing to do with Nintendo or MS's game division's profits.

If the writer of the article thinks MS makes more profit from 360 vs Wii / DS then I sincerely hope he never becomes an accountant.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Guys, guys... You're all failing to account for all the copies of Windows and Office that the Xbox sells. You can't just count the profits of the gaming division, because the Xbox brand drives sales of all of Microsoft's other software and Zunes and stuff.

Geez, sometimes I think I'm the only person who gets this business.

either way profits are useless unless you own stock.
what you guys should care it's the games.

You have a natural advantage, because you are a monkey like that IGN guy.

The foundation of all business thought is understanding the importance of shiny things. Nobody knows that better than us and maybe the ravens.
