Forums - Sony - A Few Things Sony needs to have for The PS4

Now I don't know how you guys feel but if history repeats itself we should have another console generation within the next 2-3 years (2011-2013) and while we don't know how the world will look like with the recession but I would just like to start a conversation on different things Sony should and will need to include in order for their PS4 to be more successful then the PS3.

1. $299.99 LAUNCH PRICE- All Sony systems except the PS3 launched at $299.99. Sony needs to make sure the PS4 is at or close to this price point in order to make sure they hit the ground running.

2. Launch before or shortly after MS/Ninty's next console. The landscape of this gen might have been a little different if Sony didn't give that head start to MS but whats done is done. Time to make sure it doesn't happen again.

3.  2001 was the year that really allowed Sony's PS2 to gain steam world wide with the release of MGS2, FFX and GT3. I think this time around Sony needs to make sure that GT6/GT7 needs to launch day and date for the PS4 in order to gain an extra foothold for the PS4. Hell if you can't release date and day at least release it a year after the system launches and not 3.

4. Give the PSPGO option- Keep hard media but also give people the option to download the majority of their games just like the PSPGo

5. Don't bankrupt yourself. Sony would have been way more competitive if the PS3 didn't send them into the red as much as it did. Sony should recycle and upgrade most aspects of the PS3 and use it for the PS4. Keep costs down and consumer prices down.

6. Make Motion control an Option and NOT the Standard. While its a nice thing to have A Lot and I mean a lot of people would prefer to have the standard controller with the option to purchase a motion controller something like Eye Toy where gamers have the option and a set of games dedicated to take advantage of the motion controller while others are more traditional play-through.

This is all IMO of course

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

They need to release a console that they don't need to remodel.

With hardware parts becoming cheaper, producing the PS4 shouldn't be too costly.

1. I agree with this, but its gonna mean the bump wont be as high as it was from PS2 -> PS3 (not that it matters as much, once we hit 1080p 60fps it starts to plateau).

2. Dunno if I agree with this fully. Wii and PS3 were like a year+ after X360. Wii beat the crap out of them both and PS3 caught up really fast until this last year and a half. Ultimately it was the high high cost until now that limited its sales. If the price is right it can be the last to release and still claim coveted first place.

3. PS4 a full catalogue of genres at release date. A fighten, shooter, platformer, RPG, racer, etc. Anything less will mean delayed buy for a whole segment of gamers. I know I had to wait a long time before I bought any of the three because of the horrible lack of games in my preferred RPG genre.

4. The only PS3/PS4 games that will be found on PSN will be the small ones (are there any?) 5-10+ gig games? I seriously doubt it. They should focus on having a massive PS1/PS2/PSP/PSP2/Other catalogue on PSN. PS3 games will be handled on the still selling PS3 slim (or slim2?).

5. I think thats a given.

6. I think this is also a given. I know I can't play most Wii games of the genres I like because I do not like motion control when it doesn't make sense.

BC is a costly outdated model, especially when its easier to just keep selling the slim model of the prev gen and/or selling download versions as cheep replacements. Unless the PS4 has just souped up CELL/RSX chips, it will add too much to the initial price tag. PS3 could have been at least $50 cheaper for SONY if PS3 didn't have PS2 HW BC.

Yeah, you want the perfect console. Keep dreaming.

The one thing Sony doesn't have: money.

yeah and it should also do this:

5- make dinner

6- clean the house

that's the future..

Now BELIEVE..

My Opinion

-PS4 needs to be better than the 60GB American launch PS3, including card readers, more USB ports, ect.
-PS4 must be able to perform everything that PS3 is cabapble of, plus new features added to this current slim, and any features added to PS3 up to the time of PS4's release.
-PS4 must come standard with both traditional game controls, and motion game controls.
-PS4 has to be capable of Final Fantasy Spirits Within level graphics @ 1080p/60fps.

If those are not met, I will not be getting a PS4, if Microsoft or Nintendo are unable to produce consoles to that quality, I will sit out the next generation.
