I found it interesting that the fan on the PS3 slim consumes almost as much power as the whole Wii.

That's a fairly ridiculous statement.  The wii draws about 15-17 watts?  12 Volt fan at 1.2 amps or 5 Volt fan at 3 amps?  are you kidding me????

Someone posted this the other day:

"This 12V, 1.3A monster rivals the best fans found in desktop PC machines. Sony spared no expense."

I see the link now, I still find it hard to believe.  That's a lot of amps for something that doesn't require that much torque.

They have a picture which shows the amps and volts.

Oh please, that is nonsense. My launch 60gb PS3 gets ridiculously loud (to the point where my friends have said that it "sounds like a jet plane about to take off) and spews out sooo much heat that it is basically a second heater, so until the slim's fan starts to get loud (and I'm sure it will with that huge fan), I wouldn't worry about it. Anybody remember that article about running a PS3 on a sauna? Somebody should do that test with the slim.

What? I thought the PS3 was silent as a mouse.

Silent as a mouse? So it randomly squeaks? Must be annoying.

Do u have a PS3 or any console at all WesselWoggle?

I have Wii and 360, I don't think either are loud, but we have a loud cooler in the living room so I can't tell.

Giant 95mm fan on a tiny 45nm board, considering half the console is fan I seriously doubt there is a heat issue, the fan is just doing its job by kicking out tons of warm air.

They'll fix the heating issues in the next model. I've predicted that this console will have a few bugs to work out, and I've also recommended not purchasing it until it does.

If this launch slim has any launch bugs, then I'm going to own half this forum with the word "bump," on one of my previous threads.

The less natural ventelation due to space, the more cooling is required. That ratio increases exponentially. The new PS3 phats have a really, really hard time overheating.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The Slim does get a little warm on the back end of the console. My 60 GB Phat gets much hotter, but 2.5 years and it's still running like a charm and I've used the thing a bunch. It does seem Sony is getting all the heat where it should be - dissipated to the exterior of the console.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

I see, I'm sure that the 1.3 amps is under peak load which isn't the case most of the time.  I'm playing with a PS3 slim right now.  Hooked up to a  Killawatt meter.   Low 90s watt when folding, high 90's when strolling around Home so far.  Kinda warm in the back but not overly so.  I'll have to run a demanding game on it to see what the power draw is.

I smell bullshit on this article or "review" I have 2 slims and they are working extremely well, and honestly my old Phat slim used to heat up my room, (no kidding) from so much heat it used to produce. Yes it heats up but not like the article says.

Don't bealive this junk >_>

Lol thats an awesome gif.
