Did Nintendo really have $17 billion revenue in 2008? I dont believe it, becasue it's more than 1/3 of MS.

Yep, it's true:

(although that link is in Yen)

@Lafiel... no it does not... it includes handhelds.

Geez, only some 4000 people work for Nintendo and yet they can clear profits/revenue like that. Scary.

I've seen it claimed that Nintendo has the highest profit to employee ratio in the world; but I don't know if that's true.

They made what, 4 billion dollars last year?

They have around 4 thousand employees.

That's around $1 million profit per employee. That's a lot. Tough to beat.

This is invisible text!

They are number 1 in the world as a profit to employee ratio for large corporations with $5.552 billion in operating income across 4,130 employees. $1.344 million per employee.

Number 2 was Merrill Lynch (doubt it now though, lol) with $600k profit per employee.

Mike, you asked for NES era operating profit? I've included a year prior and a year after as well.
1982 - $95.8 million
1983 - $84.2 million
1984 - $71.0 million
1985 - $83.2 million
1986 - $225.4 million
1987 - $302.1 million
1988 - $369.4 million
1989 - $483.8 million
1990 - $448.3 million *(Changed their FY date in 1990 so numbers are only partial)

Pay better attention. He said $1m PROFIT per employee. That's the amount of money Nintendo keeps AFTER paying their employees (and other expenses).

Profit-per-employee ratio is a method of interpreting how valuable a company's employees are. If your employees each make you A MILLION DOLLARS on average, you've got some freakin' VALUABLE employees, let me tell you.

And this means plenty of funds to use for things. Nintendo is making a new R&D facility, for one thing. I recall that R&D for the PS3 and 360 were a big factor in the losses for the systems.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

guys remeber that nintendo has the most revenue as a videogame company and it doesn't even do anything else besides video games.

can you believe this:

Nintendo enetered the Top 100 Worlds Most Valuable Brands for the very first time and has passed sony and many other high companys to come in at an amazing spot. Number 32....

OMG Nintendo is the 32nd most valuable brand in the world and this is the first time ever. This means if there were 3 caps besides each other like MS, Nintendo and Sony, the hat which has Microsoft written on it would cost the most then Nintendo's hat would cost the most and then finally Sony...

And in this list they count all other markets the company is in so while MS and Sony are in other markets nintendo is only in video games so nintendo the company itself is worth more than sony combined all of its market and obviously MS will be first cause of windows.

here is the link: http://www.millwardbrown.com/Sites/optimor/Media/Pdfs/en/BrandZ/BrandZ-2009-Report.pdf

just keep scrolling down and the list is on page 9 but you may want to read the article

Far more interesting, look at page 24 of the report, which lists the brand value of each console/handheld:

This is kind of strange, the gamecube's brand value is almost as strong as PS2? And the Playstation 3 has a brand value that is less than a tenth of the 360s brand value?

hey man thanks for putting that up i just didn't think that i should put it up as most people would look at list and thenread the rest of the article as well.

don't you think its amazing that a copany that specializesin only one market, videogames, is worth more than a company that specializes in so many like TV Computers Video Games and etc...

I am talking about ninty and sony
