Forums - Nintendo - Pachter at it again - Speaks about Wii's situation in light of HD prices

The Wii and the HD consoles target pretty different demographics. Honestly I believe that the same reason people tout the Wii as "not being competition" for the HDs, is the same reason that it won't suffer much from HD price drops.

The 360's sales will drop, given the recent cuts -- but I doubt the Wii will be as affected.

Didn't Pachter actually support the idea that the HDs and the Wii were not directly competiting? Why would he decide to change his mind, with this statement, I wonder?

Haha, let it go, Patcher!

Can't understand why would ps3 & 360 sales affect wii at all. People buy wii because it's the trendy console and for it's games, not because of the hardware.

Im sure the hardcore gamers love facebook, GO FLASHGAMES!

Nintendo is the best videogames company ever!

^ yeah because facebook will be a dream to use without a mouse/keyboard or their equilivents

I wonder why people can't consider the possibility that patcher could actually be right?
And if he is right, what does that spell for Nintendo?
Hell, what does that even say about Nintendo?

Only the arrogant ignore the obvious, and in this case they ignore the analyst despite them admitting that sales have slowed this year in comparison to last year...and like an arrogant company they are doomed to fall, it happened to Sony, so it could happen to Nintendo despite people thinking it wont, but the possibility is always there.

If you look at it from the perspective he is, it was never economical to buy a Wii at $250, buying something with just slightly more power and fewer features than the original Xbox for more, and definitely worth less than half of what you could have bought a low-end launch PS3. Going by proportion, it never was worth it. Clearly some different values must have been in play, but Pachter never really grasped it...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

both sony and microsoft
will get their wii sport, wii fit, EA fit whatever.
they both have motion technology releasing next year.
sony being 1-1.
if that what he means he is correct, but that depends of hd twins can market it well.
at any case nintendo will cut they price they are making huge profits on hardware anyway.

@Wii-Master

I got to know, where are you buying your 32 gb sd cards? The cheapest I could find in Toronto was $80.00!

“What I actually think is going to happen is Sony’s market share gains are going to come at Nintendo’s expense,” Pachter says. “And Microsoft is going to chug along the way they’ve been with relatively flat sales and I think Microsoft is going to be OK with that.”

“I think what is likely is that Wii sales are going to drop more,” Pachter predicts. “You can’t really justify buying a Wii for $249. You get ‘Wii Sports’ with it but no hard drive, whereas you can get a PS3 with a Blue-ray player and a 120-gig hard drive and built-in Wi-Fi. And you can get an Xbox 360 with a 120-gig hard drive and access to Netflix and Facebook. It just doesn’t make sense to buy a Wii for $50 less.”

Doesnt the Wii have built in WiFi? How else can I connect to the internet with no cable? Why is this mentioned for PS3 and not for Wii?

I am confused.

Yup it does, as stated in my observation on Pachter's quotes. Was also a reason I couldnt follow either, as I'm playing COD WAW every night lately

@Khuutra - LOL @ the steak comment. At least now we know why Outback is so expensive.
