Forums - Nintendo - Pachter at it again - Speaks about Wii's situation in light of HD prices

Pachter is still talking shit....does anyone actually care about the crap that comes out of his mouth? He still gets attention for some reason though....sure...he got some things right....well guess what...If I guessed 100 different things...I'm bound to get something right as well!

I think the biggest thing he is saying is that for the cost you are getting more for $299 then you are for $249. Wii sports is a HUGE factor in sells of the Wii however, so I think he is speaking from a "value" perspective.

.....I agree with some of his logic, but the BR player to me is the only real draw, HD space is pointless if you don't DL demos, videos, and ALOT of games. Also, like SD cards; It's for the traditional gamer, not the mainstream.

Like bardicverse said I'd like to see Nintendo do a lil' bit more for the Wii, like add an SD Card in for the tradtional gamer, maybe add a Wiiware game or two for the mainstream, just to let people know of the service. Time for Nintendo to put that excellence marketing staff to work...

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

Pachter, you claim that Nintendo will lose market share to Sony due to the drop in price. If Nintendo has more market share than it does now by January 2010, you are not allowed to use the phrase "price cut" ever again. If it has lost share to Sony, I won't post in Pachter related threads again.

(nobody point out that Pachter isn't reading this thread)

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Did he just list free wi-fi as one of the advantages a PS3 has over the Wii?

Value is in the eyes of the beholder. Some people value a burger and chips for $4.99....and other people value a T-Bone Steak for $25.

PS3 and 360 have Wii Sports now do they?

Hard drive, netflix, facebook, BR player? Are these what people buy a GAMES console for?

Sony thought they could repead the DVD magic with blu-ray. They kind of forgot the convenience increase on the level of never having to rewind your films (a BIG plus for DVD for me at least), and went with a format that is less convenient to get the actual HD quality from.

BTW, that applied to HD-DVD as well. It reminds me of when either DVD Audio or Super Audio CD was supposed to replace Compact Disc as the big music format. Which won that format war again?

And this is relevant here. DVD was a way to increase the PS2 appeal, but giving a dual function, where both were good and convenient. Blu-ray and HD games are not convenient for the mass market. The price was just one of the things holding the PS3 back.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Who in God's name would pay more than seven or eight bucks a pound for T-bone?

Pachter is continuing to try to make his pre-generation predictions come true.

In the short-run, there will be some cannibalization. But in the long-run, how large is the untapped market for an HD console? (I also wonder how many of the PS3 sales may go to current Xbox 360 owners buying a second console who were NEVER going to get a Wii anyway).

Finally, he still continues to beat the drum for the Wii HD -- which shows he lives in his own reality.

I'm talking in AU dollars...over here...a T-Bone steak in a good restaurant is about $25.

Yeah I get that, but it should cost anywhere between half and a third that if you buy the steak and cook it yourself.

What I'm trying to imply is that buying a T-Bone steak for $25 is a bit of a sucker's deal. I could understand a New York strip or something, I suppose...
