Forums - PC Discussion - Star Wars: The Old Republic - The NEW Star Wars MMO - What SWG should have?

If you have read some of my posts before, you might have noticed that I am not really a fan of MMORPGs.  Despite this, the new BioWare Star Wars MMO in development is actually peaking my interest, for quite a few reasons, namely because it may be breaking quite a few molds in the rather stagnant MMO genre.  But don't take my word for it, see for yourself.

Game Trailers 'Pop Block' version of the Reveal Trailer of the game, with detailed descriptions of moves and classes (that have now been confirmed) and possible storyline:

Seeing that, you'd probably are saying to yourself 'well that was cool, but it's just an FMV trailer, what makes this different from any other MMO?'  That's where this next video comes in.  Its 20 minutes of gameplay footage showing off the 4 confirmed classes, various locations of the game and many new ideas BioWare is trying to implement to the game such as multiple branching paths for each mission and full voice acting for each NPC:

So what does this all mean?  Well, we may have to see as more comes in of course.  But the implications are huge.  The combat seems a large step forward for an MMO.  Almost like a console Action title with a queue system only for selecting enemies initially.  And if they can pull it off, being able to have full VO and independant branching paths depending on who you are paired up with on missions will make this game revolutionary.  But we will probably have to see when the game is nearing further down the production period.

I kind of want this to fail so Bioware will focus more on its sinlgeplayer games which are always enjoyable.

That's a pretty petty reason to want a game to fail, especially considering it looks like they're trying to make an MMO that plays like an Action/Console game.

I know how you feel actually, I feel the same way. It looks like they improved significantly for the battle system over KOTOR 1/2. I mean its so fluid that it makes me regret that this isn't a single player game on consoles

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I wish they would drop Mass Effect, SW, and another IP and make NWN3 themselves. Or a new Baldur's gate. I'm itching for some good D&D games that don't suck.
