Forums - Gaming - What makes GT and Forza racing sims, what disqualifies GRID from being one?

@WOW: You know that I know you and I know that you know that I know you, so why do you even try to start your silly game?

Aw, did I hit a nerve?

Really though, how long are you going to keep this thread going?  I mean, it's basically people telling you GT/Forza have more realistic controls and you responding with "but teh damage!"  Is 5 pages of that really worth everyone's time?  At this rate you may as well start arguing that Microsoft Flight Simulator isn't a flight sim because it doesn't have realistic damage modeling.

To be fair, Forza and GT might be console sims but I don't see them as fully blooded sims. It might be the somewhat cardboard feel to driving on those games (Haven't played GRID so I have no grounds to compare) or it could be my wheelie run at 2900 km/h with the Escudo on the test track.
Who knows?

I'm a good driver in real life but there's no way I can pull off the maneuvers I do in for instance GT, in real life. The cars just don't respond the same way at all (yes, I've tried some fairly crazy shit in real life).

depends on the car really.

my brother bought a second hand mitsubish Evo 400hp 2l.

that car it's crazy, i can't believe the shit he can do it in.

Oh, I've driven crazy cars, I even owned one that was pretty damn fast, but I was talking about the car control and the way a car behaves.

I don't really understand all this junk about "realistic controls"

I have played GT3... in what way are those controls "realistic"

that depends on the car. the handling its different.

evo is dreamy, for a 30k car.

^It depends on the speed, tyres and circuit more so. You can't tell unless you drive your real life car on a smooth wide track at 120mph with racing tyres.

I still think Mario Kart Wii is the best racing Sim I have never played. Grid is second on that list.

GRID is fun, GT is not.

hence, not a racing sim.

That's my opinion anyway =)

Successful joke thread is successful?

I've driven a Honda Integra, a Skyline R32 (rear wheel drive), an Impreza WRX RA and an Impreza GT, an Escort Cosworth (tuned to about 400HP), a BMW M3 (E46), a tuned Toyota Celica GT Four Turbo, an Audi S4 and an old RS2, a Volvo S60R among others and all of these had a much more direct and sharp response in real life and didn't behave anything like the cars on Forza or GT. Most of them actually handled better in real life and the steering was more "abrupt" when going into fast corners and you could really feel what the wheels were doing at all times.

My point is that cars don't handle like in GT and Forza in real life, it is somewhat similar but controlling the car is a lot easier in games despite the lack of feeling with the road surface. Even when using the best steering wheels and pedals out there, it just doesn't feel real. Real cars also dive, roll and heave a lot more. I don't know how much experience you have driving but I cannot imagine that American and European issue cars are than different (aside from mostly automatic gearboxes and sometimes a tad different engine setup they should be largely the same).
