Forums - Gaming - Blizzard Discusses (Well, Teases) Its Plan For Returning To Consoles

http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/698668/Blizzard-Discusses-Well-Teases-Its-Plan-For-Returning-To-Consoles.html

Everyone wants Blizzard to make a console game. The studio hasn't touched consoles since StarCraft: Ghost was canned and despite off and on rumors that various platform holders were courting Blizzard to release a version of World of Warcraft, nothing's come of it. At BlizzCon 2009, however, Blizzard started deliberately hinting in interviews it's moving towards a console project.

"I can tell you that philosophically, the company is interested in consoles," said Battle.net project director Greg Canessa to Shacknews. "Many of us are console gamers. We all have Xbox Live gamertags, and we all play Xbox at home, and so we love Xbox. And we love Sony and other platforms as well. We have a great deal of respect for them."

Canessa said if Blizzard embarked on a console project, it wouldn't want to spend a bunch of time retooling a computer game -- it should naturally fit. The hot rumor around BlizzCon, perpetuated by Blizzard employees in interviews, was  Diablo III could make the jump onto a game pad. Another issue, Blizzard told Shacknews, is bringing the Battle.net experience onto consoles, too.

"How that would work, the details, I have no idea," said Canessa. "Couldn't tell you today. [pause] I actually do have an idea, but I can't talk about it. [laughs]"

Do you belive Diablo III could come to consoles?

Even if it comes to consoles, PC is the way to go for sure.

BTW, wouldn't this put back the release date for D3 or something?

For some reason, I love hack 'n slash RPG's on consoles more than on computers, so I really hope it does. But I'm not holding my breath.

I'm not sure D3 would work well on consoles. As much as I hate mouse+keyboard for some games it really is better. D3 would probably be awful on a gamepad.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Would it work differently than, say, Champions of Norrath?  Or Sacred 2?

My PC is in my office, which is kind of sequestered. My 360/PS3 (and Wii too!) is in my living room where I can interact with the family; I'd love to have this available on consoles (with luck the 360 as I prefer the controller).

if sacred 2: fallen angel can work on a console, i think diablo 3 could as well.

seems like their problem is Battle.net, and I don't really see them using it on either consoles, so I'd say "no". if they ever change their mind, I'm sure they'll release it.

however, we see this discussion a lot from times to times, so I don't think they have made any progress on this issue as well

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

That'd be great, and the new update to Battle.net feels alot like a Matchmaking system from XBL. I'd love to play Diablo 3 on console. It just seems to fit, and 4 player co-op.
