Forums - Microsoft - Elite Purchase Questions

Got some money to spend.. and been thinking on buying a Elite. Got some questions.

- Are all new Elite units Jasper models?
- Whats the "advantage" of Gold membership in Europe?
- Bundle or no bundle? I dont want Halo. Are there any good bundles out now?
- Elite comes with built in WiFi right?
- What kind of audio does it support? 5.1/7.1?
- Are all controllers battery driven, no matter which unit you get?
- Has the HDMI cable been removed (europe)?
- Do i have to purchase HDD upgrades through MS?
- Does it support 3rd party bluetooth keyboard/headsets?
- Can you stream .mkv files from your PC -> Xbox?
- Does it support 802.11N routers?
- Is it "easy" to configure WiFi connectivity? I.E a automatic recognition of some sort would be nice.

.. i visited Xbox.com (europe) while writing this. It says that as a Gold Member you can get the full experience, chat with more then one person at the same time? As in voice chat, (ventrilo style)? Also, is this restricted to just one person with Silver? It also said that i can enjoy multiplayer, this isnt available with Silver?

Are HDD installs optional?

Also.. would it be less "expensive" to buy an Arcade + WiFi + HDD upgrade? And if the HDD game installs are optional, do i really need a 120gb HDD? Will i miss out on something by doing so, or is an Arcade + 120gb + Wifi = Elite?

Elite doesn't have wifi.

If your looking for good audio PS3 is the only console with trueHD audio.

You can only upgrade your harddrive by purchasing a new one like giant memory cards. Your harddrive will never get bigger than 120gb.

PS3 can upgrade to 500gb.

I have a PS3 already. But want a xbox for multiplat titles and xbox exclusives.

So i'd have to buy that over priced WiFi thingy aswell? So an Arcade + WiFi + HDD upgrad would be less expensive then i guess? If im not missing out on some vital feature that the Elite has that Arcade dosen't?

Most likely
- Whats the "advantage" of Gold membership in Europe?
Online gaming, and earlier access to content

Shop around for soft bundles, there are good ones to be found

No, you have to buy an M$ adaptor (I don't think you can use 3rd party ones)
- What kind of audio does it support? 5.1/7.1?
Sorry, don't know
- Are all controllers battery driven, no matter which unit you get?
You mean wireless? Yeah, with AA batteries that can be replaced by a rechargeable pack
- Has the HDMI cable been removed (europe)?
I don't think it has quite yet
- Do i have to purchase HDD upgrades through MS?
You can't go above 120GB atm, but you have to use M$ ones

I don't think so

I don't know

HDD installs are optional, but very good. Sorry I couldn't help you more, and gold is per account, silver accounts are free

You can do a hack to on a regular Western Digital drive to make it work with the 360.

But, 120 Gb is the largest supported right now.

You should be technically savvy to do this though.

@ neoratt, I assume that voids the warantee though?

I read the hack, and this will only void the warranty if you are stupid enough to let microsoft know. You only modify your HDD and the HDD enclosure. I don't know what the Arcade comes with, so you'd probably have to get your hands on your own enclosure.

Either way, if you were to restore the Arcade to the original way it came, they wouldn't know the difference. Even if you broke a seal on the HDD enclosure, you could just buy another one since that would be cheaper than another X360.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Thanks!

One thing though.

Do i have to be a Gold member to play multiplayer? Say if i were to buy Fifa 10 or Madden 10, i wouldnt be able to play friends online if i dont  have a Gold membership?

@ Kownenicki
Yeah, atm it seems like a smart move. Arcade and WiFi with some HDD upgrade. But what's the difference in Arcade and Elite if non have WiFi? 120gb HDD cant be worth a 100$ (in sweden its even 150$) + price tag can it?

And yes. I plan och hacking my unit - so if there's any "other" ways to enhance my experience please do tell.
