Wii Sports Resort Sells A Million In Japan

Nintendo has announced that Wii Sports Resort has reached the million seller milestone in its native Japan.

The game launched on June 25 in The Land of The Rising Sun and was met with brisk sales. The second week was a sharp drop off, but as the chart below points out, the title has recently seen an upswing in sales during its eighth week in release.

The title is bundled with the Wii MotionPlus add-on peripheral.

Nice job. Should hit 1 million in Others at like the same time too. Americas, not for another week.

Oh, what a shock. I can barely contain the sarcasm, I mean surprise.

Next up, MH Tri, which should make 10 platinum games for the Wii there.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

are you sure about that?  I don't think we have that info yet (the link just says forbidden).  The chart on this thread says media create right on it and the numbers match media create.  It passed 1 million according to media create last week.

Sorry to split hairs, but Iwata was talking about hardware sales trending upward in the eighth week after certain software releases. It's a little hard to measure, thanks to the MH3 spike, but if the Wii keeps cruising around 25-30k per week in Japan, I think we can start patting Iwata on the back.

Hmmm, WSR sales rised because of Obon, not because of Iwata's theory which BTW was on HW.

And according to Famitsu WSR sold 39k this week, so that Iwata theory is torn apart.
