Forums - Gaming - Could Ratchet And Clank Future steal some of Super Mario Galaxy's thunder?

I think you guys are asking a lot for this to score as high as SMG. Only one Ratchet has made it above a 9, and although this game probably will too from what I've seen, the highest ratchet has scored lower than the lowest 3D Mario. Ratchet is a great series (Other than the PSP game, but that's another story), but it's not the PS3's substitute for Mario. There is no substitute for Mario. It doesn't exist in this world. Take that from someone who has played every game in both series.

Um...no.

Different console and much smaller audience versus the Incumbent Platformer that's more recognizable than Mickey Mouse.

Definently no.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

To be honest, I am expecting this game to be on par with Mario Galaxy. It won't be better than Mario, but it can still be on the same level. Something like 93.2% vs 95.6% would be great for all gamers. Nothing is better than two great platformers.

And R&C is different enough from Galaxy to have it's own following, not just the platformer people. I mean, Mario is awesome, and Galaxy is going to be sweet, but imagine if Mario had a portable disco ball that would make Bowser go Saturday Night Fever while you kicked his ass?

Also, just based on the demo, I already like it WAY more than Sunshine.

I was just thinking these two games really mark the beginning of next-gen platform games for their respective systems. Banjo-Kazooie would be the 360s first real jump in that department. Actually Banjo would have a better time stealing thunder, where the heck is Banjo?

Banjo sucked. The games were good, but the characters were totally lame.

 DIEEEE!!!!!!!

Ratchet doesn't feel like much of a platformer. It never has. If you are really trying to find the PS3's platformer you are going to need something with a lot more platforming elements and a lot less action/shooter elements. Mario is all about crazy unrestricted platforming through unimaginable locations. It's platforming at it's purest, and yet constantly evolving. Ratchet takes out some of those platforming elements to add in action shooter elements.

So to me, if you are looking for a platformer, there is really nothing that can deliver the feeling you get from Mario's incredible style of platforming except Mario itself. Ratchet is a unique and fun game itself, but if I want a platformer I'm playing Mario not Ratchet. if I want some action packed really fun guns and some decent platforming mixed in here and there then I'll play Ratchet. They just aren't a comparable type of game and in platforming nothing is comparable to Mario.
