Forums - Gaming - Could Ratchet And Clank Future steal some of Super Mario Galaxy's thunder?

...am I the ONLY person that even remotely liked Sunshine?

No. And my affection for it is not remote.

No. This is Shigsy. Best Platform developer in the world. Followed by Rare.

Rare? Get the hell out of here with that. Capcom is way better than Rare. Megaman puts every Rare platform to shame.

R&C might show people what next gen Mario should look like but that does not matter in the grand scheme of things.

"This is not just the best-looking Wii title by miles, it's one of the best-looking games in the world full stop, HD or no HD. It's as smooth and shiny as silk, the colours are unbelievably vibrant, it's smothered in lustrous effects, and you feel like you can reach out and touch its chunky, cute and tactile designs. Super Mario Galaxy makes most hi-def games look about as solid and convincing as photographs pasted onto empty cereal packets."- Eurogamer.

On Topic: No.

Donkey Kong Country was easily second to Mario in my book. And on the N64 hey continued to get rave reviews for BK. BK in the PS1 and N64 days was classed second to Mario64.

The Megaman franshice is one of the most respected franchises in gaming history. No way Rare has anything to match that.

Personally i class Megaman as 2d shooter. Of which I prefer Star Wars Trilogy on Snes.

Reviews should be comparable between the 2, I expect Ratchet and SMG to be in the low 90s range on gamerankings.

SMG will outsell Ratchet at least 2-1 though, if not more.

Only one Ratchet game has ever broken 90% on Gamerankings. However, I do agree that this one will as well. Super Mario Sunshine rated a 92% on Gamerankings and is considered the worst in the series. Every website who has played SMG consders it one of the best. Considering that, I can't imagine it being below a 95%. Also, Super Mario Sunshine outsold every Ratchet game by at least 2 to 1 even though it was on a system with 1/5 the userbase. So, although you have the right idea, you should probably recheck the figures.

Misterd, you seem to be misinformed about Ratchet sales.

Ratchet and Clank 3Sony0.311.140.722.17

Although the series is declining in sales it still sells fairly strongly. Just not as strongly as Mario.

Recheck the figures huh...

First of all: "It also scored higher than every Ratchet game despite being the worst 3D Mario"

    - Simply not true, both Mario Sunshine and Up your Arsenal scored a 91.6% average on game rankings

Secondly: "Only one Ratchet game has ever broken 90% on Gamerankings"

    - Again, simply not true. Both Up your Arsenal and Going Commando scored higher than 90%, with 91.6% and 90.7% respectively.

Now, I'm not trying to take anything from Mario Galaxy here (not do I believe R&C will either) but I thought these falsities should be pointed out. I think Galaxy looks great but I'm not so sure it'll be greater than Mario 64, that was such a damn good game.

But yes, of course, Galaxy will largely outsell Tools of Destruction.

so the question is will a not so well known game getting released on a platform thats a lot more expensive and has half the install base steal the thunder from the very first Mario outing on the Wii console which I expect Nintendo has been stockpiling wii's for?

Let me think about this for a minute.....

i'm gonna go with No

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

If this guy from Insomniac (Brian Allegier) is telling the truth, then VG Chartz' numbers for the Ratchet and Clank games have to be incredibly, hilariously off-base. According to the guy from Insomniac, the PS2 iterations of R&C (Ratchet and Clank, Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked) have sold 13 million copies. Now, the 7.5 million total doesn't include Deadlocked. And maybe you could say Brian Allegier is exaggerating and including copies still on shelves... yet even making those assumptions, VG Chartz' numbers aren't even REMOTELY close to reality.

What the fuck?
