Forums - General - Looks like one of the thrash metal's 4 horsemen will make a great album...

...that is worthy of their legacy in the 80's and early 90s.

The band I am talking about is Megadeth, and their new album called Endgame.

To those that are unfamiliar with this, its is widely considered that Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth are the 4 different strains that started the thrash metal movement hence they are called the 4 horsemen. All of the bands however changed in the early 90s and have struggled to capture what made them great.

Anthrax changed singers in 1991 and never sounded same since. Slayer lost the drummer in 1992 and struggled to top their previous efforts, although 2001's God hates us all is considered a classic. Megadeth kept changing members and tried to go commercial hard rock with each album as of 1992. And we all know the embarassement metallica has become after the Black album.

Anywho, back to Megadeth...new album comes out in 3 weeks and so far 4 songs have been leaked and all of them showcase the band in an amazing form that few current metal acts can match.

3 of them are on youtube already.

Headcrusher - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BohJHfPlHnY

44 Minutes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFYXRcuoKtU

The 4th one is not available on youtube but it is best tune yet.

What do you metalheads think? I think if this level of quality is maintained throughout the album we will have anotehr calssic on our hands.

Around the Network

I never got into Megadeth, I think they were a bit before my time when they were big, but I might check this new album out. By the way, I don't like your implications about Metallica...yes, after the black album, it all went to crap, but Death Magnetic is a classic and they are widely considered to be 'back'. If Megadeth are back on form too, then maybe we can hope for another one?

Personally, I've been getting more and more into prog rock/metal, really progressive though, like Opeth (6-12 minutes long songs on average, with most around 10 mins), Dream Theater, Dragonforce, (despite slight cheesiness), as well as really hard metal like Gojira and 'classic styled modern rock' like Black Label Society. But Opeth the most. I just can't listen to enough of it, Damnation and Deliverance in particular are unbelievable albums.

I will go and say that Death Magnetic is a step in the right direction...but in no way, shape or form is it a classic. If you take Death Magnetic and put it next to any metallica album of the 80s, there is no comparison. Solos are flat, singing is almost off key at times and songs are rather non epic in scope or as memorable as old metallica. Metallica was never as technical as lets say...megadeth...but they wrote memorable(good) songs, something that Death Magnetic lacks for the most part. And thats before we get to Unforgiven 3...for christs sake, talk about milking your franchises...lol. I honestly think Metallica has had too much success, and its hard to write angry music when youre so successful.

If you put these leaked songs megadeth recorded for this album next to anything of Peace Sells, Rust in peace or any other Megadeth classic...they are quite comparable. I doubt Megadeth will ever reach the greatness of 1990s Rust in Peace, or even 1992s countdown...but this album is a sure be the best 'Deth album since. And they had 6 albums in the meantime...

Its funny that Megadeths album quality since follows a perfect curve.

1994 Youthenasia - a little generic and uninspired but a solid metal album

1997 Cryptic writings - still metal but a barely. Hard rock radio material

1999 Risk - No metal what so ever. A band called megadeth should not release crap like this

2001 Ther world need a hero - Better than Risk and back to metal but not worth the hair on the ass of 80s albums

2004 Sytem has failed - Solid comeback album with an all new lineup, but chemistry was lacking (solos suck)

2007 United Abominations - Almost there. Heavy metal machine is present but is alseep on half of the song.

2009 Endgame - Greatness again???????
