Forums - Sony - Why is the Notion of the PS3 moving Out of third or even up a Bit in Sales so offensive to certain people?

Why is the Notion of the PS3 moving Out of third or even up a Bit in Sales so offensive to certain people?  One thing, I've noticed on this site is that many people seem to be offended by the notion of the PS3 moving out of third place or even gaining more sales than it has now?  As a matter of fact it seems to be one of the most offensive things you can say on a gaming message board?  Saying any of these things seems to be something that leads to a certain banning:

"The PS3 will sell over 50 million consoles this gen."

"The PS3 will sell close to 10 million consoles in Japan this gen and should get close to the 7 million mark over the next year due to the strength of Japanese exclusives like Final Fantasy XIII, Versus XIII, and Gran Turismo 5 while it's doubtful that the 360 will ever pass 2 million in Japan."

or

"Uncharted 2: Among Thieves won the Game Critics' Award at E3 2009 and not Halo 3:  ODST."

will almost certainly get you an immediate ban.  While saying, despite all evidence to the contrary, "Wii Sports is the greatest game ever made, it kicks the crap out of anything on PS3." Or from a 360 fan "Every game on PS3 suxors."  Just gets them pats on the back.

Do you have any proof to validate your claims?

Yeah, did you see what McDonald's Guy was saying yesterday? It didn't get hm banned.  And every time I say something in defense of PS3 it gets me banned.

No, I don't know who the McDonald's Guy is, nor did I see his post. At any rate, that would only prove half of your argument.

Agreed down with the other biased PS3 hating *************

I have seen this a few times on this site, like when that one thread was posted, "The ps3 will be Sony's last console" if you wrote that about the xbox, WHAM SLAM...BAN

Banning policy here is ridiculous.

Banning isn't unfair, it's only in your head. Whining about it won't get you anywhere.

There are two facets of the console war:

1) The REAL console war that happens between Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony. This is a sales/marketing/market share war and it is cut throat. Manufacturers compete using price, software, and value and therefore all of us gamers come out on top in the end. Since all three manufacturers have very good offerings this generation, the battle has been even more fierce than ever.

AND

2) The fanboy version of the console war. This is fought between the loyalists of each of the three companies, and it is a manifestation of long term buyer's remorse. If you bought a 360 over the last 4 years, you probably have invested a considerable amount of time and money playing 360 games, building up your friends list and Gamerscore, and generally having a love affair with the console. (It's easy to do; it's a great machine and has quickly become the "hub" for all of my movies, music, and games.)

Then the PS3 Slim comes out. Not only does it turn out not to be a rumor, but also turns out to have the best of all the pricing scenarios people had been speculating on for 3 months. The pre-orders shoot through the roof, everyone is buzzing about the PS3 for the first time in awhile, and you're not part of the celebration, because you have spent a lot of your time and energy on your 360 and have become very fond of it. All of a sudden, subconsciously, you start having thoughts that you chose the wrong console. Maybe this is the comeback all the fanboys have been threatening about. Is the 360 going to die an untimely death because of this? Will I still get games for my console of choice? Is the 360 going to come in third, causing me to lose my bragging rights? What's going to happen next???!!!

That's probably what's going through a lot of peoples' heads right now, which is why they are quick to jump all over you when you celebrate Sony's recent announcements, especially if they don't have the option of buying a PS3 at the new price. The 360 Defense Force is at full throttle right now, and it's only human nature. Especially when the announcements are on the heels of that pesky failure rate survey that came out a few days ago.
