When people say that the Batman Franchise has never had a game worthy of it I assumed they meant there was never a game that made you feel like Batman. The comic book Batman isn't all about brawling which is what almost all the Batman games before now have focused on exclusively. The addition of stealth mechanics and smart detective segments makes this the first game which really does a great job personifying Batman instead of just being a brawler with Batman in it.

Don't forget Batman on the NES. It was one of the most challenging games I have ever played.

yeah the demo does emphasise this part, so I guess you are right. (though why are there gargoyles everywhere in the asylum for you to travel on?... even inside...

I just wish the game didn't look so horrendous. The art style is so damn terrible. I feel like someone is urinating on my eyes everytime The Joker shows up on screen. Hopefully the PC version will get a user mod to make everything look better.

I also enjoyed the original NES Batman, was one of the first games I had played. I remember loving the SNES Batman and Robin game, never owned it but I remember renting it a few times!!

I actually don't mind their version of The Joker. It's their rendition of Harley Quinn that I find absolutely terrible. I can't say that I like the Batman design much either.
