Forums - Sony - Sony is still looking at gaming from pure hi-tech perspective

Wanna proof? New model of PS3, `the Slim`, now supports another snobby and expensive gimmicks, namely Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Before fanboys popping up and crying out of loud how wonderfull these features are, consider the point:

Not only it requires very expensive equipment in your room, which 99.9% of installbase don't have, also if it were not for these sunshine techs, PS3 Slim might cost another 20$ or even 30$ less. I bet everyone would be more than happy to trade-off trendy logos from front panel for cheaper console. The inclusion of various hi-tech gimicks into PS3 road map totally unneccessary for fun & healthy gaming is exactly the reason why PS3 costs an arm and a leg, and why it's eventually falling.

Such `hi-tech` approach infected Sony beyond any measure. For example one could see the same pattern even in their game line-up, where everything seems to spin about top notch video/audio effects and totally overshooting that. Take KZ2, bleak and generic FPS promoted as `gaming icon`, and you know what I mean.

give it a rest. All that high tech is one of the things that makes the average person think it's a awesome piece of entertainment. Which it is.

Check out my game about moles ^

boo hoo

go & whine somewhere else

Better sound at a lower price, and you're saying that's bad? Like how?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

To feel this "betterness", you must be happen to own some hi-end audiosystem which supports all of these techs. In other words, Sony screws 99.9% of customers to pay good plenty of money for something they won't ever use. That's what they call bang for your back xD

Yes, let us hate on Sony because they are offering more audio options while still charging the same as the elite.

What is next? Whine because they are snobs and have wifi and bluray while at the same price too?

Nobody forces you to buy the expensive equipment.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

DTS HD Master Audio. I fix'd the OP.

Hmm so let me get this straight.

If Sony drops price, slims the PS3 down and retains pretty much all of the same features, that is bad?

If Sony drops the price, slims the PS3 down and removes audio options and other features, that is positive?

Read what you're writing and realize just how stupid it looks.

I agree with the TC, the Wii is the most succesful console so the average person obviously isn't interested in high tech equipment. Sony needs to move fast if they want to catch even a piece of the gamers that made the PS2 as big as it was. Right now they are on equal grounds with the 360 (in terms of prices) and that's a great place to be but the 360 might be able to make another price drop due to it's cheaper hardware by the time Natal is released. Full body motion might actually be the thing to replace the Wii and if the 360 can do it cheaper then that could be a problem for Sony. The averager person doesn't care for fancy technology, otherwise regular phones wouldn't be sold even though smartphones are really cheap now. So Sony needs to change its ways.
