PS3 is more effective.

I think the PS3 price cut will be more effective because if you want a 360, the Arcade has been 200 for a long time now, while the PS3 was always 400 and up. This is Uncharted territory for the PS3

Let's not fool ourselves into thinking that the 360 has actually had a price drop. Prior to September 1st, the only difference between the Elite and Pro models is that the Elite has a bigger hard drive, an HDMI cable, and is colored black. However the upcoming "Elite" models have forgone the HDMI cable. The simple truth is that the upcoming Elite is just a Pro model colored black with a larger hard drive. Microsoft is phasing out the current Elite model and essentially relabeling the old Pro model as an Elite. There's been no price drop from Microsoft, just added value.

Nobody was fooled into thinking that Sony's move of turning 40GB PS3s into 80GB units with the exact same functionality aside from the hard drive was a price drop so let's not pretend otherwise with Microsoft.

Actually the pro is still getting a price drop as well, but only temporarily. The units that are currently on shelves will be lowered to $250 till they sell out. Obviously that won't last long.

Uh the ps3 still has a $400 model, so 360 can compete head to head with $299.99 ps3.

The 360 arcade have been priced lower than $299 for ages now so how will xbox pro being discontinued and replaced by elite for same $299 make ppl go crazy? ohh and HDMI is no longer included in the new elite I think.

it does still have a 400$ model, but the 299$ model is identical to the 360 but comes with free online and blu-ray, of course it will be competitive. Im sure the selection of 120gb for the hdd was exactly because they predicted the drop in the elite. Though the ps3 still appears to have superior hardware value (software is subjective)
