Boy sets friend on fire — then does it again
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SACRAMENTO, California — A 12-year-old California boy is under arrest for allegedly setting his friend on fire twice.

The victim, a 13-year-old boy, suffered severe burns to his legs as well as burns to his arms and abdomen.

Fire officials say the two were playing in a tree house Wednesday and filled a balloon with lighter fluid. The balloon broke, soaking the 13-year-old in the fluid.

According to officials, as he started leaving to go change his clothes, the 12-year-old lit him on fire. The victim patted out the flames, but then 12-year-old allegedly lit him ablaze again.

Sacramento Fire Capt. Jim Doucette says he doesn’t know if the suspect intended to hurt his friend or was just being playful. He was taken to juvenile hall and faces arson charges.

Kid's got promising future.

Meh, does this need a thread? Awful stuff happens all the time. It's like making a thread for another run of the mill murder, theft, assault, etc.

Honestly, as bad as this sounds I grew up with people doing (really) stupid things that would sound awful if something went wrong who turned out alright ...

When I was 12 or 13 boys in my Junior High School would pour lighter fluid onto their pants while sitting and light them on fire because (when done properly) the fluid burns but not the clothes; and the heat from the fire does not burn your skin. Stunt men do similar things, but are smart enough to know to wear protective gear for when things go wrong. If this "Trick" has continued to be popular with kids in that age group it is entirely possible that children (like the one in the news article) are getting injured primarily because they don't understand how the trick works.

What we have here is a premeditated arsonist then engaged in incidental arson. Am I the only one that understands that the children were making a fire bomb. In California no less a place that burns to the ground regularly. Hell they weren't even making a small one they filled the balloon till it blew up, and sprayed one of them with fluid.

Hey joey why are you rubbing your zipper you just set me on fire. Joey sets his friend on fire again, and continues to rub. Do you know how many arsonists are caught masturbating to the flames in a trance like state.

It sounds bad, but to be honest this is just child playfulness gone wrong. Sometimes kids don't realise the reality and dangers of what they are doing because they are still naive to the world. This occasion just got out of hand.

Most people do something dangerous at some point in their childhood it's just that it luckily doesn't go wrong or it's not a big thing to begin with. I remember playing with axes when I was a kid and that turned out to be a mistake, luckily not a big one, but it could have been, lesson learnt on my part.

Either that or the kids just a rotten little shit.

If at first you don't succeed in lighting your friend on fire, try and try again

If they were making a bomb, shouldn't some serious questions be asked about both the kids?

Not really.......he tried to burn his friend twice and failed. If anything, I expect to see him on a futre TV special - World's Stupidest Criminals, or something of that ilk.
