Forums - Sony - Sony: NO PS2 Backwards Compatibility On PS3, Never, Ever,

You know what this reminds me of? When Bill Gramatica, former kicker for the Arizona Cardinals, tore his ACL while celebrating a first-quarter field goal.

This is Sony colossally fucking up after doing something that may very well have saved them in the gaming business. By doing this, who knows how many potential buyers they're alienating? Don't get me wrong, the slim is great, and so is the price, but I think BC is the thing most people were concerned about.

The slim may have alleviated their troubles a bit, but they're still in a tough position. If they put in BC, PS2 sales go down, but if they don't, PS3 sales go down.

If that's the case, the industry is in trouble. Why would people sit around twittling their thumbs for an announcement of a PS3 Slim @ $299.99, to find out it doesn't have BC, and turn away in high amounts all of a sudden? The PS3 needs to sell as a PS3, not a PS2 built into a PS3. Why is it a "colossal fuck-up" for Sony to want their newest console to sell on it's own merits?

This just doesn't make sense man, really....

It's a colossal fuck-up because they're taking away arguably the one feature potential consumers were looking forward to. By doing so, they've failed to give so many potential buyers (those who were hoping for BC) a reason to buy the PS3.

Good. Finally Sony comes out with a PR type statement that has truth, no false hopes, no confusion. no bending reality and people still bitch.

Kudos to them for not stringing people along.

PS2 greatest hits downloads are the future. Ive said this 1000 times, that way PS makes money on games and not ebayers.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

it would have been better if they never teased the world with the launch series ps3s to begin with. Since the people know it was once possible, they'll just want it back

They can't win for slimmin'....

how long until someone weighs the fatty and slim and says sony lied about weight reduction?

Okay, so let me get this straight. One of the things that helped the PS2 win last gen was its backward compatibility to PS1. So we enter this gen, where both MS and Nintendo put in backwards compatibilty, but now Sony thinks they don't need it? I do think that explains why they're in 3rd this generation- many of us have memories that we want to relive. Sure, the profits on games from last gen are mostly (or entirely) gone, but the convienence of having 1 system do multiple things is good. When my modded PS1 died, I just went ahead and got a Japanese PS2 to do the same things with. But when that dies, well... I'll probably be up a creek. Thanks, Sony... thanks for making sure that I won't be able to play these games again at some near point, defined as when my JPS2 dies.

It's because Sony are jerks to the average consumer.

Seriously, if they cared one ounce for the consumer, they would put in BC.

They say if you want BC, you need to give us 30 dollars to buy a PS2. We need your 30 dollars which will probably make us tens of thousands of dollars yearly which we want.

They, like every comnpany, are infatuated with money and knowing the colossal popularity of the PS2 and knowing demand would still slightly be there, they say "go and buy a PS2" and risk being a jerk in the eyes of the gaming population.

People want a PS3 to only play PS2 games go figure. Well might as well get a PS2 slim for $99.

But you can never doubt firmware updates. Plus, the PS2 is your best friend if you want to play PS2 games. I own a PS2 Slim and a 80GB BC PS3. So I'm good when it comes to playing PS2 titles
