Okay, so let me get this straight. One of the things that helped the PS2 win last gen was its backward compatibility to PS1. So we enter this gen, where both MS and Nintendo put in backwards compatibilty, but now Sony thinks they don't need it? I do think that explains why they're in 3rd this generation- many of us have memories that we want to relive. Sure, the profits on games from last gen are mostly (or entirely) gone, but the convienence of having 1 system do multiple things is good. When my modded PS1 died, I just went ahead and got a Japanese PS2 to do the same things with. But when that dies, well... I'll probably be up a creek. Thanks, Sony... thanks for making sure that I won't be able to play these games again at some near point, defined as when my JPS2 dies.
