Silly people. The 45nm process shrink has no bearing on the production chips used in the PS3. The article\information has been taken out of context and wrongly made to imply the PS3 Slim will have benefits in this area over the PS3 fat. Believe it or not the "CELL" wasn't designed for the PS3 originally and there are versions of it that are faster than the one used in the PS3, this is where the 45nm process shrink will be useful.
Furthermore, 45nm production is nothing clever. Intel have been selling x86 processors for the PC market that are 45nm for over a year.
So in essence what I'm saying your all stupid to cluth at straws and by doing so you show the complete lack of insight that is expected of you all as raving fanboys. To blindly believe such tosh goes hand in hand with the whole ethos of "Teh cEll"...
After I read the article ;) I have this to say. (didn't need to read article to make above comment since I know what can and can't be done in terms of refining the design of games consoles and that components can't be just "swapped" for faster parts and not introduce problems on the scale of mass recalls)
Come on have you guys even read the article. The journalist in question is obviously a total fucktard and doesn't have the first idea of what he's talking about. He even decides to imply that the RSX might have been ditched for a similar newer graphics chip!!!! lol...yeah very likely...not!
Not to mention that he makes those claims about "performance improvements" but in the ensuing quotes we only hear about improvements in terms of effeciency and power reduction, which are one and the same thing.
Think about it ;)
Suckered in, everytime.
