Ongoing discussions with Microsoft about how Final Fantasy XIV is to work with Xbox Live are partly to blame for the lack of announced 360 version, producer Hiromichi Tanaka told VG247 at GamesCom today.

“FFXI for 360; at that point PS2 didn’t have a hard disc [and] that was really difficult for us, but Xbox 360 had that from the beginning, so that really helped us. We managed to smoothly move onto 360 from the Windows version, so that was very good to us,” said the developer.

“However, for FFXIV, because 360 has its own policy with Xbox Live that is different from [the] internet, that’s something we’re in discussions with Microsoft [about], to come to an agreement. That’s one of the reasons it’s not going to be launched at that point.”

The “point” being the simultaneous release of the PS3 and Windows versions next year.

Tanaka told us in the same conversation that the words “launch timing” were “cut out” of SCEA boss Jack Tretton’s FFXIV exclusivity announcement FFXIV at E3, and that it “doesn’t mean that we’re not going to have a 360 [version] in the future”.

So a 360 version is coming but after the PS3 version.

Well, we saw it coming but now the 360 version is pretty much near officially confirmed.

It no surprise especially after the way Jack Tretton worded it at E3, I wonder how much of a delay this will cause the 360 version? Because it already isnt coming out until 2011 on 360 but which month/quarter is the key?

Maybe MS wants them to have gold to play it? I think Phantasy Star doesn't require that though.

Good news for 360 owners that its coming in the future. Sony gets a "timed" exclusive for once.

We all knew it wasn't a true exclusive. Or Tretton would have described it the same way he did Agent.

Thats good news for Xbox360 owners who are interested. Question is 'when' though. It be good for MS to make an agreement soon or else they might be far behind.

I get the feeling by the time the Xbox360 version comes out, PS3 owners will be playing FFVersusXIII.

As expected, 360 version probably a few months after Ps3/PC release. Microsoft isn't going to pass this up. Lol @ all the people calling this a megaton for Sony E3..

Sony E3 was still better than Microsoft's.  And the year head start for FF XIV on PS3 will be big; and unlike Oblivion, Bioshock, Eternal Sonata etc. I bet the later version of XIV won't be the definitive one.
