Forums - Microsoft - Can the 360 retake the lead from the Wii?

RP, to be fair about Japan, it won't be a tie.

The X360 has a 22.7k lead without Japan. The ratio in Japan shouldn't be more than 20k...So it'll be ultra-close, but the X360 should still win.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

No systems are supply constrained within America. You can readily find any system you so desire. That is not a issue anymore. Technically it hasn't been a issue for months. Enough fellow posters can back me up on that. You can go get a Wii now any time you so desire.

Try to order a wii from amazon.com than.

There you will also find the following message:

Wii purchase limit policy

As you may know, the Nintendo Wii is in great demand, and there are shortages of this product across the U.S. In an effort to provide as many customers as possible with the opportunity to purchase a Wii, we are limiting the number of Wiis customers can purchase in a given calendar month. As a result, each household may only purchase up to 3 Nintendo Wii units per calendar month. See additional policy details

with Brawl not coming out in December, there's a possibility.

True, 360 has beat Wii in NA, but not WW, unless Japan's numbers are horrible, Wii will still be top dog in September.

I think December might be the only month Wii does not win WW and that may be due to a shortage on units available. However, I am putting this in a big pretty if basket.

Brawl is still expected to hit NA in December. January for everyone else.

 Ehhh... chunk... http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=8344&start=0#end

But still, Wii still has Mario Galaxy. Some people (incredibly) don't care about Smash. So to the original question: No.

yep -1 superchunk. I just read the other thread regarding the announcement.

Wii still appeals to a broader base than the 360 so it's unlikely. Also don't underestimate the appeal of Mario & Sonic (it's basically Wii Sports 2), and early indications show that GHIII will be huge on the Wii.

The numbers you give at the top are only for the US, in Eu the 360 only sold more for the Halo release week, and WW Halo week 360 only managed 11k more than Wii, with this week looking like it will roughly the same, possibly a bit less.
---------------------------
If the Wii had absolutely no extra supply over Christmas it would sell over 15 million.
The best the 360 can do by the end of this year would still be about 15 million (that's keeping up with Wii until the end of the year)

however it is confirmed there will be an unprecedented supply of christmas Wiis, and that definately amounts to no less than 16 million (tbh unprecedanted meaning only 1M extra is being really pessimistic). The 360 can not manage that.
Worst case scenario for Wii, best for 360 would be a mere 1 million console gap by the end of 07....i'm expecting more like 3 million.
