I love the addition to this gen. The comparing, the sense of accomplishment but i have a couple drawbacks.
Some games it doesnt matter. MGS4 comes to mind. But I remember just accomplishing things or "finishing" games of the past. Collecting all intel, leveling characters to 99 just out of passion.
But i seriously find myself checking trophies or achievements before i buy some games. For others, like Rock Band or games where i feel i can just play so much for the fun its a non issue, but i like completeing games, all aspects.
That said I hate trophies that take away the actual playing of a game. Mostly multiplayer trophies. Killzone 2 is a great example, it really makes you dictate how the games played, especially in the online aspect. People who try to pistol kill or melee the opposing team and distract them form the overal aspect of online gaming.
Resistance 2 i think did a great job of Online trophies.....10,000 kills is brutal but its cumulative...you get it by playing a great online game and dont need to use a certian weapon or style, but trophies that change the overal aspect of how it should be played really ruin games for me and sometimes make me not even want to bother playing them.
Im curious if anyone else feels that some devs do more harm with some trophies or achievements to their online communities.
BF1943 is another good example of the trophies done right. You still accomplish things by just playing the game. For the grinding trophies or trophies dependant on altering playstyle single player trophies are fine. They encourage multiple playthroughs and offer varying experiences overall and im pleased.
What are other peoples opinions on these issues, im curious.
