Saying that you're skeptical is not the same as saying something couldn't be as simple as it appears, but politics is not as simple as it once was and both political parties are using underhanded tactics to make their side look good (and the other side look poor) ...
To use a different example, how many people here would be surprised to learn that many of the questions in the townhall meetings were plants by both the Republican and Democrat parties? How many people would be surprised if some of the worst questions (that earn youtube fame) were plants from the opposite party to make their opponents look bad?
With how easy it is to manipulate the appearance of something today you should be naturally skeptical of anything you see on TV or on the internet
Edit: On top of that, I fully admit that the reason the racist acts could have followed the Democrat's spin was because people were looking for it more or because the suggestion of racism at these protests encouraged racists to come out.
