Forums - Sales - I'm sad to say the PS3 will crush the 360 this hiliday season :/

First I'd wait to see what Microsoft does in response before the holidays...

No way.  The only person with a rational thought in the thread.

PS3 MAY crush the 360 for the holiday season.  It depends on EXACTLY what NJ5 has stated.  The holidays don't start for another 1.5 months, lots of time for announcements.  But the real question is this.  Wii > 360 + PS3 this holiday? ;)

i love these competition, though I will be broke for sure. ugh

Yes, there's way too much overreaction in this thread (and on the Internet in general today). Naturally price cuts help out hardware, but only temporarily. The thing that really pushes hardware is popular software that peope really want to play. (It's all about the games... it's always about the games, folks.) Since Gran Turismo is looking questionable for a 2009 release, and Final Fantasy won't release outside Japan until next year, Sony isn't going to have a real killer game this holiday season. Yes, Uncharted is a nice game. No, it's not a 5m+ bigtime seller. And the 360 and PS3 will continue to share 90% of the same software library, and the 360 will still be cheaper in terms of entry price.

So... I expect 360 and PS3 to sell about the same, probably within 20% of one another either way. Could be wrong, but so long as both platforms are getting Modern Warfare, Assassin's Creed, and a million third-party sports games together, I can't see either one ever breaking away and "crushing" the other.

Oh, and what's a "hiliday" season?

My Website

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

Considering I can buy a bluray player for about $150 now and probably $100 bucks by the "hilidays" I don't think the PS3 will outsell the 360 by any significant factor.

It will sell more, since the people who wanted a $300 360 already bought one. But, the rate of PS3s sold over 360s will probably be less than 15%.

In the long run the 360 will remain 2nd place, easily.

No way that PS3 outsells 360 over the holidays outside japan. 360 will win US and UK by landslide. At holidays, especially this year, people will be more price conscious than ever. $200 vs. $300 is just too big of a hurdle to over come even without further moves by MS.

I don't think the PS3 slim will rape the 360 this holiday, but it will outsell it by quite a bit (probably 1 million)  Unless MS does something pretty big!

We'll know by tomorrow if that's the case. Microsofts conference is early in the morning.

Ah ok, I was wondering why everybody was saying wait till tomarrow...

I'm a 360 fan but I own both consoles, the PS3 will outsell the 360 by a lot this holiday season. The pricecut on the elite isn't going to help the sales that much. People look at the cost of the cheapest model, they don't really know what comes with the console.

However everyone knows the ps3 comes with a blue ray player and the see the cost of that and wonder, should i just spend an extra 20 dollars and get the game console instead? Then people buy the PS3.... The ps3 will sell 1.5-2.5 million more than the 360 this holiday.../thread

Whoa, man!

It's not that hard to believe.  Over the 2007 holiday season, the ps3 and 360 sold neck and neck.  In 2008, MS dropped their base price by $80 and outsold the ps3 by 3 million.  This holiday, Sony is the one cutting prices, shaving off a full $100.  Plus there's FFXIII in Japan and possibly GT5 too.

It would not surprise me to see last holiday season reversed this year.

Also keep in mind that with the ps3's new price cut, price parity has finally been achieved between the ps3/360 in the US.  We're looking at a 120gb Slim @ $299 vs a 120gb Eilte @ $299.  Only one of these comes with a Blu-ray drive, wi-fi, and free online play.

Of course, the Arcade's low price will probably be pretty popular with parents looking for cheap Christmas presents. This should give MS a nice advantage over the holidays, helping the 360 vs the ps3.  After the holidays, however, I expect the ps3 to have a decent lead in weekly sales, much like how the ps3 outsold the 360 even in America through out early 2008, though it did not manage to do so over the 2007 holiday season.

Let's hope that's true. PS3 needs to close that gap down.

so $200 vs. $400 becomes $200 vs. $300 and people are expecting a massive turnaround? hmm maybe.

All I know is that there might be some epic meltdowns here during christmas season.
