What victory is this you speak of? That the Slim rumors were true? There really weren't many who believed the rumors held no merit and if there were, that wouldn't exactly matter other than on a "I told you so" level.
As for the product itself, it remains to be seen how the Slim will perform so no one should celebrate or "sell the pelt before the bear is shot" so to speak.

I did like the announcements though, I was hoping for a PS3 Slim and GT5 news and I got both!

I haven't heard the GT5 news.  Couple a $299 PS3 with FFXIII as an exclusive in Japan (virtually knocking the 360 out of being able to even be called a competitor there), GT5 which will probably sell 10X more at least than Forza 3 in Japan, another exclusive FF coming to the PS3 in Japan.  It's just going to give PS3 so much momentum coming from the Japanese market like the PSP has that we will begin to see a differentiation creeping into the PS3 and 360 libraries that has been nonexistent the last couple of years which further increase PS3 sales.

Then look at Europe the last time there was a PS3 price cut in Europe the PS3 beat the 360 by 20,000 or more each week until Microsoft decided to use two price cuts in that region.  Throw in GT5's impending release in Europe and Microsoft planning to raise the price of the Arcade in Europe, that puts all of that momentum back into Sony's court.

Then thrown in the 360's other problems still having the rrod.  All of Microsoft's big games being shoved back to 2010 while Sony is set to have a stellar Christmas.  At the very least Sony should have the 360's lead down to the 5 to 6 million range again in the not too distant future.

Of course since both consoles will have probably sold 30 million plus units by the middle of 2010 no Western developer is going to stop making PS3 versions of their games while the strength of Japanese developers will continue to swell due to the ff, etc, sales, you see PS3 winding up with the type of game library that the PS2 had goin for it while we'll be getting games in the same tired old series from MS  .  .  .

It all leads back to PS3 coming out the victor the HD wars if they continue to play their cards right.

I am actually curious to see what Microsoft decides to do with their money at TGS.  The biggest things they could be able to do would be buy FFXIII day and date with the PS3 version in Japan buy Versus XIII day and date with the PS3 version in Japan, get an exclusive Monster Hunter or Kingdom Hearts 3 if they don't do any of those (or maybe have their own exclusive FF coming in Japan), they're basically dead in that market which has many overseas from Japan fans.

The problem is that they haven't played their cards right so far this generation (3 years) unless they planned on being in 3rd place the first 3 years of PS3's lifespan. So the "if" is a big "IF".

Being in 2nd feels so much better than being in 3rd

Of course that doesn't matter so much when Microsoft hasn't played their cards right since about the time Ninja Gaiden II came out about 18 months ago.

I would say a $299 PS3 at Christmas with big exclusives s like Uncharted 2, Ratchet Future 2, in the West and FFXIII in Japan and GT5 in both would very much be Sony playing their cards right.

And the recent success of PSP coming in ahead of the 360 worldwide the past few weeks indicates Sony is doing something right.

@ DjFlex, actually Sony stated that they didnt want to sell too many ps3's b/c every ps3 was a loss for them, I really think Sony plans on winning now, since they will make profit on every ps3 slim console.

Sony supporters are so desperate that they think a 100$ price cut will change something in this gen's outcome. How will they react if in the next 48 hours Microsoft announce a price cut too?

Plus PSP is totally at the bottom of the mountain when we take a look at the DS marketshare (68.1%) and the new model won't change anything. All the major third party games will stay on the DS.

lol
