Forums - Sony - Did Activision's threats trigger the price drop?

No lol, highly doubt it.

Activision's statement had no effect.

Of course. Because we all know electronics never go down in price..

*looks at Wii*

Actually....

This move for the slim was more than likely well in the works before Activision's statements. But I am curious to see how activision responds to it, do they just make a public statement agreeing to it or do they go as far as to make an exclusive...

No, it was already in the works. It's a funny coincidence though.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

There is NO DOUBT that sony dropped the price because of activision's threats.

without activision's support sony would be dead last in the console war.

NO.

It had no effect at all. Sony always drops the price before the holiday season, anyone who thinks that the threat had the slightest effect on Sony is a fool.

I mean come on, the slim has been in development for quite awhile, do you really think they intended to release it at the same pricepoint, use some common sense please.

As people stated above, I doubt Kotick had anything to do with the price cut.

But, there is little doubt that Sony wanted to release a slim model 3 years after launch of the PS3.

Now, we just have to wait and see what MS and Nintendo will do in response to the slim. I feel that MS and Nintendo will have their own price cuts and/or some pretty sweet bundles available this holiday season. Hopefully Sony will also bundle an older game with the slim to make it more attractive to parents.

Nope, this was probably in the works long before that statement.

I doubt Sony wanted to release a slim in year 3 of the 10 year cycle.  This uses a card that I don't think they really wanted to play until year 5 or more...

If Sony was where Microsoft is in terms of world-wide total sales do you honestly think a slim would have been released?

Well, Sony has definitely had to adjust their stategy since the PS3 launched, but when I said it it's been in the works for a while I was thinking at least since the beginning of this year.  I would imagine it takes a while to redesign the hardware, test, and get the new parts manufactured.  I'm not a hardware expert by any means, but I can't imagine it started a couple months ago when those comments were made.
