Forums - Microsoft - How long will it be until Microsoft counters the PS3 price cut?

Well, considering that M$ had previously stated they will match anything Sony does, and they expected this to happen in Spring '09...hmmm I think it can be expected that PS3 Slim is going to get a rude awakening on launch...not to mention what Nintendo is going to do with the Wii...a $50 drop for that would chop off the slim in it's best feeding pool...Japan.

We will see what Nintendo's intentions are soon enough.

Hmm... call me what you want, but I see MS doing price drops on all the systems. Something along the lines of:

Arcade: $179.99 / £129.99 / ¥19,800 / €149,95
Pro (discontinued clearance pricing) $199.99 / £149.99 / ¥24,800 / €199,95
Elite: $249.99 / £199.99 / ¥29,800 / €249,95

-On a quest for the truly perfect game; I don't think it exists...

It depends on how well the PS3 slim sells. Honestly coming from a MS fanboy with Wi-Fi included and Blu-Ray (if you care about it) I think the Sony system is the better buy now.

It's just that simple.

Biggest Games are coming with arcade still the cheapest way to play

If they both stay at $299 I absolutely agree the PS3 is the better buy for those without a console yet.  I'm likely to get another PS3 myself (sold the first one) in a few months and get rid of my stand alone BD player.

I think it is the case at the same price for value.

But Holiday 07 was directly following the PS3 price cuts and at that point it was like literally the cheapest and best Blu-Ray player so a lot of people got it as mostly for that during that time period.

Next fall is when MS will strike with it's price maneuvers.

The PS3 software shipments really don't support the bolded statement in any way.

Also, I don't think Microsoft will give Natal away.  They have too much money invested in it.

Actually the software shipments do pretty much support it.  That's why it maintains such a lower Tie ratio despite good software sales.

And Natal isn't being given away for free, per say.  It's being included with every 360 instead of having a price drop.  And then anyone else will have to buy it for however much it will cost.

Tie Ratio

PS3 7.9

360 8.1

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

They'll probably announce a 299 elite/same 199 arcade tomorrow

That is comparing the most recent quarter of Sony's to the 360 ratio of 9 months ago....

?

Also I don't mean to say millions of people just use the PS3 for Blu-Ray, but I bet several hundred thousand to a million did purchase it for that back in the 2007 price cut time.  It was plastered on every tech site as the best price/performance blu-ray player.

how much can they cut? thier hardrive isnt the same as ps3 ones, they are more expensive.

elite is $299 same price as ps3 now, so i guess they will knock it back to $249

They both use standard 2.5" notebook drives.  They are the same price.  I am betting that once they clear out all the Pro's and stuff the new price points will be Elite $249, Arcade $149 by the end of September.

Dit someone say "Bingo" ?

Imagine that...149$ for a 360... now that will be something this holliday.

BTW,the Elite doesn`t need a price cut at 300$,the Arcade does...at 150$ it will be half the price of the ps3...again!

Having the cheapest console on the market helps a lot,and having the high-end model the same price as your competitors entry-model helps too. Even if you don`t have blu ray or wifi or free online,in the shoppers mind he is getting an Elite, the most expensive model,at the same price of the competitons cheapest model. You can`t beat that.
