Console game Halo 3 has proven to be as big a hit with South African gamers as their international counterparts.
In Europe and the US, the popular Xbox 360 console game broke all gaming records after being launched last month and it is set to do the same in South Africa.
Barely two weeks after going on sale locally, it has sold tens of thousands of units and is in such huge demand that the country’s leading gaming retailer, BT Games, has run out of stock.
Shannon Rogotzki of BT Games said her stores countrywide had sold “thousands and thousands” of the games since it was launched.
Rogotzi said: “The sale and interest has been exceptionally good. It has been phenomenal and we have run out of stock. Even our supplier has no stock. The sales have exceeded our expectations.
“Now we have been forced to go back to pre-orders.” Rogotzi said that new stock was expected to arrive next week
