I don't think he'll necessarily be in your crew. As I understand it, you have a choice in who to take into your crew or not. In Mass Effect 1 it wasn't that much focussed on that. But I guess we'll see.

I've played the first game like 5 times lol.. I might consider getting the novels then. Thanks.

They run parallel to the main story.  One is before and one is after the events of Mass Effect.

The first one details the history of Anderson and Saren that is heavily referenced in the first game.  The second one introduces you to the Omega base and offers a possible explanation for why humans might be going missing all of a sudden, and another way the Reapers might get to the Galaxy.

But I'll leave those spoilers for avid readers.

I never liked it when games continued their story thorugh novels, always made it seem like you were getting the cliff notes vesion in the game.

Anyway, can't wait for Mass Effect 2, i'm about halfway through the first game now (after a 5 week delay for 360 repairs) and it's pretty awesome.
