Forums - Gaming - Games in PSPGo Store are cheaper than in AppStore = bad move for Sony?

Ok, games in PSPGo Store are known now to be priced as 1€, 2€, or 5€ which is less than 10$ in AppStore

We all know that AppStore is heavily criticized for 1) being shovelware pit and 2) discouraging quality games because of too low price to prioritize quality over quantity. Now, Sony repeats Apple's mistake by making prices even lower. To add some lulz, they are going to invite certain AppStore developers to re-make shovelware 2$-ware for PSP.

I think this is bad move by Sony and it will alienate both existing customers and those developers who had stake on PSP development in past.

Discuss.

So... Sony wants to allow more developers to make more games for the PSPGo... and that's a bad thing?

Well, let me explain:

Do the customers want gaming experience on PSP same as on iPhone? If yes, why not to buy iPod Touch? It's superior to PSP in all the senses. So, I think anwer is no, they don't want it.

Does existing ecosystem around PSP want to be spammed with shovelware? I don't think so, that's why I believe they will be pissed off.

What Sony wants matters the least. We all had chance to see where they are heading with PS3, being moved by their greed wild desires.

If their decisions are not wanted by customers and partners, them are of no good.

Sony will take a smaller part of the profits, and it will encourage more devs to come to PSP. The idea is to encourage people to get PSPgos and then they get these really cheap games and then they move to proper games, which will of course produce more profit as they are much more expensive, and as they are DD even more profit than normal games

Only if Sony doesn't like money.

the iphone has no buttons. psp has no motion control/touchscreen.

That could mean somewhat more intelligent games for psp.

@ non-gravity, to me that will mean better games, but the really casual iPhone gamers like the motion control even though they produce terrible games

I really wonder how this will apeal and work for Sony.

Well it's not like anyone would want to take his psp with him to listen to music and play a couple of shitty games. (old design at least)

I believe people buy an ipod/phone for the music player in the first place. The little games are just an extra.

Customers of the PSP want the gaming experience of the PSP.  That's why they're considering a PSP in the first place.  Getting more games is a value-add.

Here's the interesting part:  Why buy games from the Apple App Store when you can get them on a handheld that specializes in games already with likely better controls?

If a lot of developers port their games over to the PSPGo, that will diminish whatever effect Apple might have on the gaming industry.
