Forums - Sony - Need Major League help on MLB '09 The Show.

The game...amazing.  Me...not so much.  I suck.  I haven't had the game for more than a week.  However, playing on Veteran difficulty (rookie hitting seems like zero skill) with all of my hitting sliders all the way up, I feel I should be doing a lot better than I am.  Even though I have the pitch speed slider all the way down to give me extra time to read the pitch, I have trouble differentiating balls from strikes unless they're way out of the zone.  If I take a close pitch for a ball, it was probably dumb luck.  I haven't the first clue when to use the power swing since I have trouble even making contact with the normal swing sometimes, so I just don't use it.

I'm not the kind of person who has hours and hours a day to devote to this one game to master it.  Ahhhh, the good old days, but I digress.  Before this game, it's been a long time since I played a baseball game.  Any hints/tips/tricks you can pass on to me would be greatly appreciated.  Should I just suck it up and hit on rookie difficulty?  Should I spend ridiculous amounts of time in batting practice?

Well for starters use swing analysis when batting you hold down the L3 button (Or R3  i forget) After you swing and it tells you if you were early or late etc. on when you swung at a pitch.

Also, take your difficulty to rookie and use guess pitch.  You don't have to select the zone for guess pitch like on veteran with rookie mode.

These subtle changes should eleveate some of your issues.

The main thing that makes me weary of going to rookie batting is that I don't want it to go in the complete opposite direction where I score like 20 runs a game.  I'm looking for realistic scores here.  I guess maybe I'll have to try rookie and when/if I get better, I'll mess with the sliders to keep the scores realistic.

The problem with your hitting is the timing and what not. Put your sliders to default.

Get confortable hitting with guess pitch at rookie mode. Then bump it up to veteran with guess pitch.

Then eleminate guess pitch all together.

Don't use sliders. Until you get proficent at hitting. it wont make u better.

I moved all of the sliders in my favor.  Especially timing.
