Forums - Microsoft - SEGA Shutting Down Chromehounds Servers

I'm going to go pick it up just to grab the online Achievements..

Sega Putting Chromehounds Servers To Sleep

Xbox 360 mech sim Chromehounds is about to have its online component put to sleep. Sega will be taking the game's multiplayer portion behind the barn, hopefully ending its life with the first shot.

The Chromehounds community, dozens strong, was informed of the news last week: Sega will be pulling the plug on January 6, 2010. According to Sega forum administrator, "all online components for Chromehounds will no longer be accessible and the game will only be available for play in Offline modes."

That means, if you still need some of Chromehounds' Xbox Live Achievements tied to the game's online component, you better get 'em now. Or at least before January.

The From Software mech game was released for the Xbox 360 in the summer of 2006. We don't know exactly what 3.5 years of online play translates to in chromed dog years.

Chromehounds Online Service Closure - January 6, 2010 [Sega - thanks, John!]

I wonder how many players were there actively?
Other wise will there be a sequel for the hardcore fanbase.

I know some friends who play this from time to time, they wont be happy

huh? doesn't xbl have p2p servers so everyone can play xbox/x360 games online as long as there are other people who want to play?

It's one of the things people don't get about most 360 games.  There's still non-user tech needed to run these games.  It's not pure P2P.  Take something like Halo 3 - even though the match is "hosted" on one 360 there's still traffic between the game and Xbox Live for stats and match awareness, and I can see who is in your match, how much time is left and the score at all times.  For that to happen, the match must exist outside of the networked boxes as well, correct?

Chromehounds was a good idea,  but it had poor execution.  Mechs were hard to control and it was too east to break the game with your created mechs.  Too bad.   It's one of the only games I bought at game's launch for 360 that I really feel bad about spending my money on.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Kinda odd this would happen considering the XBL funds. The only original XBox games I remember shutting down servers outside of Sports games were Phantasy Star and Steel Battalian which Capcom hosted servers for. Too bad MS can't take over server side to keep the few people playing it going.

It's just that simple.

Hopefully From Software's teaser game is Chromehounds 2. I would be one very happy camper!

Well, that completely blows for five people.

360 games can use MS provided Live servers to provide Matchmaking.  Not all games do this and some developers opt to use dedicated servers.  This might be one of them.

I would rather that be Otogi 3. One can dream right?

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.
