Forums - Sony - PS3 on normal TV

I will also add that the 360 looks great on SD as well. I know you are looking for "how does the PS3 look" but there are some games I've played on the 360 that are also PS3 titles... and they look outstanding on my Sony Wega 32" using component cables -- significantly better than composite cables... Don't let your SD TV discourage you from buying a PS3 if that is what you want... Jump in, it'll look fine.

All HD does is enhance the graphics on each console the PS3 and X360. So if you want HD get it, but its nothing significantly different. I know that I have a HDTV that goes to 720p and 1080i. So I know if I get my PS3 I will definetly be taking advantage of Blu-ray. Hold on a sec.....

Does Blu-ray require you to have 1080p to watch Blu-ray or I can watch it in 720p?

Of course, 1080p isn't mandatory, only if you want to enjoy every supported pixel. Likewise you don't need a 7.1 supporting audio set.

Just looks much prettier on a good HDTV set, more detail and sharper image quality. Current PS3 games seem to have been designed to look good on ordinary TV sets as well.

Either is fine for Blu-ray, the PS3 will automatically scale up or down to whatever resolution you need. (One word of warning: a few early model HDTVs have issues as far as switching to 720P, but apparently this was a problem with the TV set itself, not Blu-ray).

That said... think seriously about shopping around for an HDTV, there will be some juicy deals this holiday. It's not just gaming - movies, DVDs and TV all look jaw-droppingly beautiful.

@SlorgNet

I already have a HDTV its 20 inches and it supports 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i. I'm fine as for the next 5 years or so. Then I would need to upgrade to a 1080p HDTV. My Xbox 360 games look absolutely amazing in 720p its a totally different story from SDTV.

@MikeB

Thanks for the info. I was just making sure whether it would work or not.

Well go Blu-ray and HD DVD or IDK. I know that the Blu-ray is standard in the PS3 so I think I will have to support Blu-ray since the 360 add-on is $180US.
