id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead teased the audience today when he whispered "Doom" during the company's annual press conference, however any hopes that id would begin talking about the next game in the seminal first-person shooter franchise were quickly dashed. Hollenshead quickly added that the company will talk about Doom 4... at QuakeCon 2010 next year.

Not surprising, really, since id is focusing this on Rage, the new franchise that it announced two years ago at QuakeCon 2007. However, Rage was still early in development last year, so it was barely seen and mentioned. This year is different, however, as id is showing gameplay for the first time. Make sure to read our preview of Rage, as well as the brand new QuakeCon trailer. And we'll all have to tune in next year for more information on the new Doom.

I liked doom 3 so doom 4 will be nice i just hope it doesnt take 3 years.

I'm getting old for this, last Doom was released in 2004, and I don't think will see the sequel before 2011.

I also wonder what's the development status for Rage, that's game's been in development forever...

I don't know why so many people didn't like Doom 3. I loved the dark atmosphere.

I think you answered your own question there. For many people it was unplayable without torchlight mod.

All doom 3 had was graphics. Gameplay was dated before the game came out. Look at what came out around the same time...HL2, FEAR, Halo 2...all incorporate things like terain, strategy and better story telling. Doom 3 was close to a rail shooter gameplay wise...you see (or dont see), you shoot, you walk forward...that is after you check out fuckin PDA. God I hated that game, I have a PDA of my own I have to check.

doom 3 was ok, but not that good. i liked quake 4 alot more than doom 3. i hope doom 4 is back to its roots.
