So the Wii controller plus the nunchuk have buttons lettered and numbered A B C, 1, 2, Z, -, + and home. Nintendo always kepted A B and they added C and Z later on. Then on gamecube they added X and Y.  Originally the 1 and 2 on the Wii remote was suppose to be X and Y but they changed it to 1 and 2 for some reason. So should they change Z to 3? or 1 and 2 to X and Y?

Wasnt the "Z" button on the N64 controller for the center trigger button below the analog stick? Or am i mistaken?

it was but that doesn't count! that was still when R and L was still there and they took it off on Wii.

Well the X & Y buttons, along with L & R are on the Wii classic controller like how it was for the SNES controller

Then why did they replece it with  1 and 2

and they put the Z button with the analogstick like how they did with the N64 controller. Nintendo kept the same letter buttons where they belong according to the type of controller style. Since they Wiimote is a new type of controller so they added new #1 & 2, all else are similar to Nintendo's previous controllers. ...and yea what RTCjunkie said lol

If thats the case then it'd make more sense to have the Wiimote be A & B like they did with NES which are both a 2 button controller. X and Y only occured when there's a 4 button pad.

They need to add little kidney-shaped X and Y buttons around the A button.

Or for their next controller they could do a diamond shape 4 button layout where 1 and 2 are.
