Forums - Sales - Oh wow, Chart Track was actually wrong

I remember there was a thread not too long ago that stated that the Xbox 360 outsold the Wii in the UK. It turns out that Chart Track was wrong and they corrected the mistake: they were off by 500k.

The Nintendo Wii has outsold all other consoles in the UK by some margin so far this year, GamesIndustry.biz can reveal, notching up almost 800,000 units shifted since the beginning of January.

Interesting... Did VGC adjust according to this? or did we correctly stay the course!

"However, it appears that a trading update issued by the GAME Group at the end of June - which included the UK's console installed base numbers - used the new set of numbers for its June snapshot and the old set of numbers for its January snapshot, thereby distorting the rate of sales picture for the first half of the year and making it appear that sales of the Wii and DS had slowed considerably."

Haha - I think VGChartz is owed an apology. I remember someone saying these exact words.

Activision's Europe figures must be just as messed up. Poor Chart Track.

Wow. This somewhat improves my confidence in VGC numbers I will admit.

LOL, nice to know that those fools I'd dealt with were so far off the mark from the truth. It's nice to feel vindicated.

lol, ioi is so modest. I didn't believe it.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

well done for being right when you said the numbers were wrong.

there must have been a MASSIVE deletion of data or something to cause this, which makes me really wonder... HOW THE HELL DID NO ONE PICK UP SUCH A MASSIVE INCONSISTANCY!

Edit: ioi dont worry about the people who jump on you to make adjustments, as its primarily fanboys who are anxious to see their favorite consoles number improve, or there opponents to get lower.

It would be interesting to see a press release comparing VGChartz numbers before there were a suite of adjustments over the past couple months and comparing them to the actual console shipped numbers that came out from each of the big three lately...

I had a feeling that the numbers were right, then there were adjustments made from Chart Track and NPD... Then, readjusted once financial statements were released... It seems VGChartz has gone full circle when they may have been right all along.

I think this needs to be a news story, really drive home the fact that everybody makes mistakes..

Good news for Nintendo consoles might I add :P
