Speak for yourself mate. Launch PS2 was almost the same price as launch PS3 here. So PS3 has been well below launch PS2 price for ages.

Dunno about GC/Wii or XB/360. I suspect this gen's systems are well below launch prices too.

For me though I bought PS2 for less than I paid for PS3. Damn you PS2 for getting me hooked on gaming.

If the 360 pricecut announcement is gonna be on 30 Aug, how does that pre-empt the PS3 price cut (assuming there is one and it will be announced on 18 Aug)?

The Elite dropping to $299 is not a "true" price drop just as Sony dropping the 80GB down to the 40GB price is not a "true" price drop. It's the same thing as if the already existing cheaper SKU got an upgrade since the cheaper SKU in both instances was discontinued.

To be a true price drop it would have to drop the price on the lower SKU's as well and the middle SKU would still be around.

Speaking of those not reading, are you sure I said it WASN'T a price drop at all? Please, read the highlighted.

What it means is, you're getting an extra 100gb of HDD space for $299.99 (the same price as the Pro was). Those on the fence about buying a PS3, that really want one, are more likely to buy a $299.99 PS3/or Slim PS3 than a $299.99 Elite. Of course the cheapest alternative this gen is still the $199.99 Arcade, which happens to still be Microsoft's major ammo against the PS3.

Regardless, it's all speculation anyway, but since I heard about the Pro being phased out, this has been my prediction."
