When they made a TV show on the series, I completely lost it. And why the switch to 3D, well they figured if Mario could do it, so can Sonic.

1.) They still sell in the millions.
2.) Sonic Team is tired of their intelligent property.
3.) SEGA couldn't care less.
Pixel Art can be fun.
I think I might be a minority but I found the mech and treasure hunting portions of Sonic Adventure 2 were fundamentally sound.

They could do that, however I just don't see Sega doing it.
Just because Capcom did that with Megaman 9 doesn't mean that Sega will do the same.
IMO the only company that can possibly do a great 3D Sonic game is Nintendo but they won't do it because it's none of their business.
They should get Capcom, or even Konami, to do a traditional remake/sequel of the original series. Obviously for download.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

If that mean you like them (I think), then count me in the minority too!
And yes, Sega/Sonic Team still have a chance to make a good Sonic game, if they can get their priorities straight!!!

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

Yup, Sonic Adventure 2 was probably the best 3D platformer I've ever played... this has nothing to do with 2D or 3D, it's simply about programmers who fail at the task of making good games.
this should be what the next sonic game is based on. pure, virgin and unblemished awesome
