Counter Strike: Source, the sequel to the legendary FPS game Counter Strike. Running on Valve's Source engine the has taken on quite a few changes and I'm not just talking about the graphics. The game play has been greatly effected but is it for better or worse?
With the jump to the Source engine the game definitely doesn't play like the original. The hit boxes have been changed to better fit the new high res models. Accuracy is effected because the weapon's seem to have gained some weight, if you will, making it harder to get a headshot.
Back in late 2006, Valve decided to remove the old radar system and add in a new system. The new system which gives you a detailed model of the area you are. Unfortunately the reactions are a mixed bag and frankly I dislike it. It makes the game play feel broken and makes it feel like your cheating.
Graphically the game is beautiful and shows off what the first generation of source based games could really do in the multi-player arena.
Playing online is always a treat, just like the original. There is always a brand new map someone in the world created or a new game play type. There's nearly endless possibilities for this game.
My Ratings:
Graphics: 13/15 – The Source engine is beautiful.
Audio: 8/10 – Same sound effects as in the previous game.
Game play: 11/15 – Remastered gameplay and a broken radar doesn't mix well.
Replay Value: 18/20 – Mods, de_dust2, CAL, TWL, cant beat that.
Overall: 8/10 - Good sequel but not as good as the original.
Note:
This is a retro review because I want to keep my retro and reg reviews numbered the same.
