Forums - Microsoft - Hard Drive upgrade - Why so hard Micrsofot?

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone here. Transferring you data to a new hard drive on the 360 is the epitome of ease. You put in the software dvd, hook up the transfer cable, and the it does all the work for you.

I just bought a 80GB PS3 to swap for my brothers 60GB. I bought a couple of 500GB HDDs, one for me and one for my brother since he was nice enough to swap with me in the first place. You want to talk about a pain the ass, try swapping drives on the PS3. The PS3 didn't detect the 500GB hard drive via USB, so I had to use a flash drive. It took 12 hours to back up my brother data a flash drive. And yes, I did delete all of the game installs off of his hard drive before I backed up the data. The back up utility is a joke.

I popped in the 500GB HDD which was very easy, you just pop off the cover, unscrew on bolt, and slide out the hard drive tray. There are four other bolts securing the HDD to tray but they weren't a problem either. I thought the coast was clear but apparently when it backs up your data, it doesn't back up XMB. No problem. I'll just turn on the 60GB PS3 and copy XMB off of the hard drive. Nope, no option to copy the XMB. What the hell kind of back utility doesn't back up the damned system OS. I should have just bought a PSP, a blu ray player, and bunch of PSP games. Same cost way less headache.
