Well the reason for the delay is the fact that it is being ported to the PS3 by another studio. The main developer hates the PlayStation3 I read the interview today. I am pretty sure that this trend will continue because of the PS3's architecture and the fact that things have to be polished far more before seeing release on PS3.
To be honest I think it will benefit Microsoft alot. Why, because it is still pretty early in the console wars and people looking to buy a new console this Christmas will see all of the games on 360 and none on PS3. They won't say hey mom theirs a ton of good games on the PS3 that were delayed till next summer. No the kids gonna say "Hey mom I want such and such a game" That parent is going to go out and look for that game and guess which console that game will be on.... (Xbox 360).
So yes it will help boost hardware sales especially this fall. But I think it does have longer lasting implications for Sony. Just how much longer will developers even bother porting to the PS3. With such a small installed user base and such dismall software performance I can't see developers shelling out the dough much longer.
This could be the beginning of the end for PS3. As someone pointed out it may not affect those who own multiple consoles but out of the nearly 200-million last generation console owners only 25 mill or so have consoles right now that leaves another 175 million or so consoles to be sold and thats not including the new adopters of the Wii and such. This makes it a major major deal as many people aren't as hardcore as you and I and will see only the volume of software availible on the system as well as the lower price of the 360!
