Forums - Microsoft - Why no Gears or Halo demos?

This is just a quick question and I'm sure someone could answer this but I was wondering why there are no demos available for Gears of War 1/2 or Halo 3 available on XBL. Other first party games like Crackdown, Forza Motorsport, Halo Wars, etc have demos but not their top two franchises?

Is there a particular reason for this? Are they afraid people will try the demo and not like the game or something?

I think Epic has some weird thing about demos, so they didn't put up a Gears demo. As for Halo, there was a Halo Wars demo, and the Halo 3 demo came with Crackdown.

Yeah Halo Wars is not Microsoft's biggest franchise, Halo is. There was never a Halo 3 demo only a beta, and obviously the beta is over now so no one who has just purchased an xbox can see if they truly enjoy this Halo game they are always hearing about.

I own all those games already so it isn't a big deal to me, just curious. Seems to do the demo system an injustice if you keep great games out of it.

Well, how could you do Halo justice with a short demo anyways? The breadth of options in the game can't be summed up in a 5 minute playthrough.

there is a demo for halo reach with odst...and a halo 3 demo in crackdown, and my friend got a demo for gears 1 cause he knows some people at epic...

Probably to make people buy the game to see what all the fuss is about.

Long Live SHIO!

I think MS's thought process on this is that enough people know about the games and its a strong enough brand that people will buy the games just off recognition even without a demo so why waste the resources. Besides if a demo isn't done very well it can put off a lot of people from purchasing the game even if the demo isn't representative of the quality of the full game.

You guys are mixing up beta and demo.

A beta is just to test out an earlier form of the game, and usually only pertain to multiplayer. I'm talking about an actual demo of the final verson of Halo and Gears.

People will buy the games regardless.

Halo Wars is part of the Halo franchise.. It only had a demo because it was a completely different genre and people weren't to sure on a RTS Halo. It's also simple to turn a RTS into a demo because of their short mission structure's.No Halo Bungie developed FPS will have a demo because underneath any changes it will still be what people know and love. The biggest and most popular games usually have open multiplayer beta's not demos.
